I Didn't See It Coming

I Didn't See It Coming

“I didn't see it coming". How many times have we said that over the years? Just think about the events in our lifetimes.  Most recently there was COVID--19, and the subsequent impacts. Who saw that coming?  In 1980, we saw Mount St. Helen go from a sleepy snow-capped mountain to a violent volcano in less than 60 days.  We have seen economic crashes. Stock market crashes. The breakup of the Beatles! Who saw any of these coming?

But for most of us, the most difficult is the sudden loss of a family member or a friend.

Over our lifetime, we could each create a list that could be titled, “I didn't see it coming". It is one of the facts of life; uncertainly; not only the uncertainty of tomorrow, but uncertainty for the balance of today. We make plans for our tomorrows. We try to be good stewards. We have hopes and expectations. All of these are good, but all of these are cloaked with the uncertainty of what the future holds. Will there be “l didn't see it coming" that will change everything. Time will tell.

If we allow it, this truth could be unnerving. How will we cope when the unexpected events occur? But we don't need to be fearful. We have God on our side, and He knows exactly what the future holds. In fact, He is sovereign over all things; not only knowing what is going to happen but also having total control over the events that will impact our lives. Having a relationship with God the Father through Christ Jesus whereby I can come to Him as Abba, Father, makes all of the difference. It is the source of peace and confidence.

2021. Will it be filled with events that have major impacts in our lives? I don't know. God knows. And that should be enough to give me peace.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow;

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

Because I know He holds the future;

And life is worth the living just because He lives.
